How to elope in Tofino, BC.
Hi friends! I wanted to talk a bit about one of my absolute FAVOURITE places! Tofino, British Columbia has breathtaking landscapes, stunning coastlines and magical lush forests. It serves as a perfect location for couples seeking an intimate elopement in nature. Think running down the beach with your love, hand in hand, as the ocean mist surrounds you. Or saying your vows within the ferns and moss of Tofinos stunning greenery. Here's a quick guide on how to make your Tofino elopement dreams come true.
Choose the Perfect Location
Tofino offers a multitude of whimsical locations for your elopement. Consider the iconic beaches like Cox Bay, Tonquin or Chesterman Beach. Any location you choose will offer unique features like forests, trails, or stunning rocky coastlines.
Plan According to the Season
Tofino experiences distinct seasons, each with its unique charm. Whether you prefer the lush greenery and showers of spring, the long days and golden hour of summer, or the dramatic storm-watching of winter, choose a season that resonates with your vision. Be aware that it rains a lot on Vancouver Island, mostly in the winter and early spring. So plan accordingly for that! The rainy season definitely adds a moody, cozy and whimsical vibe that is super beautiful. While the warmth of summer time brings stunning sunsets, and a completely different look, with long days, and brighter landscapes.
Legal Requirments
Before your day, make sure that you obtain your marriage license. You will need to do this in advance at a Service BC office. You will also need to research if the location you have chosen to elope requires a permit or not. Each location may have different permit requirements and understanding them in advance will help you plan accordingly. If a permit is required, be sure to start the process well in advance of your elopement date, as some permits may take some time to process.
Connect with Local Vendors
Explore local florists, bakers, and other vendors to add personal touches to your elopement. It all depends on what YOU want for your day!! You will also need to choose a licensed officiant to perform your ceremony. As well as your photographer..hint hint- me! If my style aligns to your vision of course! If you are wanting to do some couples "getting ready" photos (alwayyyys some of my favourites) something to keep in mind is how much natural light you will have. Also make sure that the overall vibe of the space aligns with your vision for your day!!!

One of the amazing things about eloping is that you can do whatever you want!! Your day can be as traditional or as unique as you choose.
